if you’ve seen the breaking news that trump just signed an executive order today to end the family separation policy here’s some quick info to keep things in perspective
this doesn’t end the “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone who crosses the border “illegally”
the only thing this changes is that going forward, entire families will be detained together while awaiting prosecution
this offers no solution for freeing the thousands of children currently held in ICE child prisons or any path to reuniting them with their families
children will still be detained and treated as criminals
this will likely lead to thousands of families being held in ICE facilities and tent cities that will face the exact same issues of overcrowding, abuse, and inhumane conditions that exist in the child prisons
this is not a victory or a solution. This is the administration trying to cover their asses and avoid any more public outrage. They want people to see this as the end of the news story and go back to their lives. They want people to forget the thousands of children they are still keeping in cages in ICE facilities across the nation. This issue is not over and we cannot stop being outraged until we are given proof that the thousands of kidnapped children are returned to their families, and that the policy of arresting and prosecuting people who cross the border is ended.
Can I just talk about how important this press conference is to me. He just got back from Afghanistan after months of torture. He refused to go to the hospital and instead immediately went to a press conference. He could barely stand, and instead had everybody sit with him, but he showed up.
“We have become comfortable with a system of zero accountability” Tony’s first thought when he arrived home, now aware that bad people were using his weapons was to stop it. He didn’t go to the hospital or to his own home. He went to the public and told them.
‘Hey bad shit happened because of me, so I’m going to hold me accountable, and I’m gonna tell you what I’m going to do so you can hold me accountable too.’
Now when I get home from vacation the only thing I want to do is go home, and I don’t generally have emotionally scarring things happen during my vacations. I just miss my home. After months in Afghanistan I’m sure Tony did too. Yet he prioritized shutting down weapons to that. Which he should have, but it shows incredible strength of character.
I’m just so proud of him as a character. Like good for you Tony.
but he’s a villain remember. no matter what tony does, his past will always be brought up time and time again. he’ll be called a war profiteer, no matter how many times he helps rebuild, fund, and better the world.
tony is in many ways, like all of us, all of us who are struggling with depression and still trying our best everyday to get out to bed, to go to work, to function in normalized society. we’ll always be shunned for our mental illness, attacked for impulses we can’t help, and looked down upon for existing.
when i watch the iron man series, i see a reflection of me. a person who makes mistakes and grows from them, and never stops trying to make it right.
ugh. words can’t explain how much i love tony fucking stark.

Hey, Thanos, your plan is to genocide exactly half of intelligent life in the universe so that they can all thrive and live in happiness and prosperity, right?
Yeah, I thought so.
But there’s someone who went against your plan and betrayed your ideals from the very beginning, someone very, very close to you. It ain’t the Avengers. It certainly ain’t your stepdaughters. Wanna know who it is?
It’s you.
Yes, you. You went against your own plan from its very beginning. What? You don’t think so? Then I guess I’ll have to introduce - or reintroduce - you to a mutual acquaintance.
This is Eitri the Dwarf, King of Nidavellir. Not that he can be king anymore, what with you killing all his subjects and mangling his hands.
Eitri here can tell us more about the real you in ten minutes than you can in your entire effing screentime. Just listen to him talk to Thor.
“Three hundred Dwarves lived on this ring. I thought if I did what he asked, they’d be safe. I made what he wanted: a device capable of harnessing the power of the stones. And he killed everyone anyway. All except me. ‘Your life is yours’, he said. 'But your hands… Your hands are mine alone.’ ”
There were three hundred Dwarves on Nidavellir. After you left, only one remains. If you even had an inkling of determination to follow your plan, you would have left 150 of them alive, but you didn’t. Maybe you think 300÷2=1, in which case you need to get some basic fucking math education. Or maybe you were scared that they would make another weapon, one that could (gasp) even kill you! Because why wouldn’t they want to kill you when you finish slaughtering half of them? Then you ruined Eitri’s hands so even he couldn’t build another mighty weapon. Because you were scared of them. You were scared of their retribution.
Oh, and another thing. Look behind Eitri. Notice how it’s completely dark? That’s because you extinguished the Forge - the instrument of the Dwarves’ work and pretty much the reason of their existence - just so you could be sure nobody could ever wield a weapon as mighty as yours and challenge you.
This is why you are the greatest betrayer of your own plan, Thanos. You went against your own ideals the moment you killed the 151th Dwarf. Not only did you kill much more than half of the Dwarves, you destroyed their way of life and ensured that they would never thrive again. I’ve mentioned earlier that you lied to your stepdaughter about her home planet, but you also lied to yourself. Your 'plan’ was never a real thing, just a mask to hide your true intentions of becoming the most powerful being in the universe. You see yourself as a revolutionary, but you’re not even close to being one. You’re a maniac. That’s all you are: a genocidal maniac, and nothing more.
For Trinitas Kunashe, like many girls in Malawi, getting her period was unexpected, unexplained and a burden for her everyday life. Often, girls who do not have access to pads prefer to stay home and out of school for the duration of their periods.
But Trinitas is changing that with her amazing new invention:
Made from bright and comfortable locally-sourced fabrics, Tina Pads are a hit amongst girls in her community. They are waterproof, practical and fun – and most importantly reusable.
Determined to make sure no girl is forced to miss school because of her period, Trinitas is a passionate believer in the power of education to change lives.
I get so happy when i see people reblogging this version bc i had to dig through dozens of thousands of reblogs on mobile to make sure people find out about this incredible project… The world needs this!
